Mothering Wild with Creshea Hilton

What inspired the name Mothering Wild?

My business name was born out of the chaos and raw nature of motherhood. I saw that every day I was mothering these little kids of mine, and there was a wildness to it all. A sense that each day would present me with moments I’d never have encountered before literally felt wild to me. Kids are so primal, and they do things in such a way. I chose the name Mothering Wild, for the raw moments, the alternative ways we all mother, an attempt to share the transparency of the everyday stuff, and how at the end of the day being a mom is unique and so individualized.

Did you know you’d be doing this 5 years ago?

I had no idea that I would be self-employed 5 years ago. On some level that I would work with women and mothers. But if someone had asked me 5 years ago that I’d be a Doula and a Network Marketer and super knowledgeable in using essential oils and how to navigate birth and postpartum I might have rolled my eyes!

What is your biggest reason for offering the service/ product?

True story, but I almost died twice after I had my first baby. It’s  a very long complicated story, one that involves me being allergic to multiple medications, and one that ends with me becoming a Doula. But it wasn’t until I had that little boy of mine and began my trek through the mountains of postpartum that I saw what others moms saw. That this motherhood gig is some kind of unpredictable. There’s judgement, pain, tears, depression, joy, confusion, a deep love like you’ve never felt before and that’s just in the first few months. It wasn’t until I almost died that I realized I could live a much fuller life, and adding in natural alternatives like essential oils into my family’s life was a simple way  to increase the fullness of our lives.  I sell essential oils because I’ve had hard experiences like so many other moms and I want to give other women a chance to have options that are safe, effective, and powerful.

Last but not least this month — fitness and health have always been something that is important to me and although I haven’t made it a priority lately (I’m changing that this year xo) I have always admired the women in the field and this lady is no exception!

Meet Jaclyn Ung from SmartFit Training

What inspired your business name?

When I first started as a Personal Trainer I knew I wanted to help women workout smarter and fit fitness into their lives – originally I had sent the name Fit Smart to my friend who was a logo designer and she mixed it up and sent me back SmartFit and I loved it so decided to keep it.

Did you know you would be doing this business 5 years ago?

I’ve been in business for 6 years now but 5 years ago I didn’t know that my business would change so much to be focused on women who are training for obstacle course races.  My business has evolved and changed over the past 6 years from being a mobile personal training business to one that offers one on one personal training, online customized training, online group programs and outdoor Bootcamps.

What is your biggest reason for offering the service/ product?

I started running Spartan Races almost 5 years ago and it ignited a passion inside me and I wanted to share that experience with other moms who were too intimidated to try them on their own.  I know how life changing obstacle course races can be, you discover confidence and strength that you never knew you had that carries over to all other aspects of your life.  I want to help as many women as I can train and prepare for these races so they can walk confidently up to the start line and try something new.

What is one of your favourite companies/ blog posts/ articles that always inspires you to keep doing what you’re doing?

I recently discovered Rachel Hollis and her book Girl Wash Your Face – it resonated with me and I love how honest and straight forward she is.  I also follow some elite female OCR athletes on Instagram and FaceBook: Faye Stenning, Allison Tai, Lindsay Webster and Jessica Lemmon who I find very inspiring.  I also find inspiration in my clients – when I feel like quitting or not going for a run that I planned I ask myself what I would tell a client and get it done anyway.

Thank you ladies for taking the time to answer these questions and for being here today — you all inspire me daily and I am so excited for all the big things headed your way xo
